Our Story
Merino – Bringing Quality Meats to Your Door
In 1962, Willem Rademeyer opened the doors of a small butchery on Crawford Street with just four team members and a big dream. From the beginning, Merino Butchery sourced its meat from trusted local farmers and distributors building relationships that still form the backbone of the business today.
Willem’s children were raised in the heart of the meat industry, learning the values of hard work, quality, and service. In 1990, his son, Stephaan Rademeyer, officially joined the family business. Sadly, in 1997, Stephaan passed away after a tragic accident.
In the years that followed, Willem’s daughter Doré Grobler and her husband Christo Grobler stepped in to continue the family legacy. Together, they poured their hearts into growing Merino Butchery into the respected name it is today, leading with passion and integrity for over two decades.
With deep sorrow, the family and team mourn the passing of Doré a beloved wife, mother, and the driving force behind the business.
Today, Christo Grobler continues to lead Merino Butchery alongside their sons, Jaco Grobler and Christo Grobler Jr. together, they carry forward the family tradition with pride, overseeing a dedicated team of more than 80 people.
While Merino Butchery remains firmly rooted in its local partnerships, it has expanded internationally to ensure our customers receive only the finest quality products.
The story of Merino Butchery is one of family, resilience, and commitment values that continue to guide us into the future.
